Hi, in het verleden hebben we discussie gehad over de betrouwbaarheid van onstekers, en dan vooral in de toepassing in cluster-raketten. De klassieke Estes Solar ontstekers zijn voor clustering niet ideaal. Er zijn een paar redenen waarom dit zo is:
- draden van de onsteker zijn niet geisoleerd, de kans op kortsluiting door niet perfect plaatsen is best groot
- onsteker heeft veel power nodig,
- brandbaar materiaal in het kopje is erg beperkt: als de ontsteker niet perfect aansluit in de nozzle is de kans op niet ontsteken van de brandstof best groot.
Nu zijn er al jaren de gele brugontstekers, en sinds een paar jaar levert ook Klima zeer betrouwbaar werkende exemplaren, allemaal zeer geschikt voor clustering. Dit jaar heeft ook Estes de Solar ontsteker aangepast, zie foto en beschrijving hieronder. Met name de brandbare kop zou sterk verbeterd moeten zijn. Heeft iemand hiermee al ervaring ?? Disadvantages of the Estes StarTech Starter
First, the wire leads are not insulated. They are bare steel wire. So if one lead wire touches the other, then electricity will not flow through the nichrome bridge wire and it will not heat up and the motor will not ignite. There is a piece of tape that holds the two lead wires apart to try to prevent them from touching. If you remove this tape it will be easier for the bare lead wires to touch each other.
But near the tip, the wires are very close to touching, and when you put the starter into the rocket it is possible for them to touch just below the very tip. Be sure to inspect the wires and make sure they are not touching each other when you are hooking up the rocket for launch. Also make sure the clips are not touching.
The other disadvantage is that the lead wires are short. This can be a problem if you are trying to launch a cluster of two or more rocket motors at the same time. The problem is that you cannot easily twist the leads together without the wrong lead wires touching each other. If you can keep them from touching, the Estes Starter does work fine in clustering black powder rocket motors. Another alternative is the Estes Sonic starters, or the Aerotech First Fire Mini igniters, both of which have long insulated wires that make it easier to twist the leads together when clustering motors.
Third disadvantage of the Estes Starter is that it is relatively fragile, particularly the bridge wire at the very tip. It is a fine wire that is easily broken by rough handling. Be careful not to tug too hard on the wire leads, or you may break the nichrome bridge wire free from one of the steel lead wires. The nichrome bridge wire is spot-welded to the lead wires, and it is not a durable connection because there is so little surface area where the two wires touch. If it is broken free from the lead wires, the igniter is useless and cannot be repaired.
Fourth, the Estes Starters are considered to be a high current igniter by modelers. That means that small batteries with low voltage and current have a hard time delivering the juice to heat them up. They are not good for the typical electronics used in dual-deployment or for airstarting engines. The Estes Starters work best when launching rockets from the ground because the size of the batteries in the controller are larger and capable of delivering the necessary electricity to heat up the bridge wire.
Samengevat: eigenlijk nauwelijks beter dan het origineel. Van de drie nadelen die ik genoemd heb wordt er maar 1 verbeterd. Voor complexere lanceringen beter andere types te gebruiken zoals de Klima, zie foto .
Als je ze direct bij Klima per 25 stuks bestelt zijn ze zelfs goedkoper dan de Estes ontstekers.
